As a mom/foster momma, I’ve come to realize just how crucial self-care is for myself. Now, when you don’t care for yourself it’s very hard to care for the people who need you the most. In my case, my children and my husband.
Self-care is crucial because it better helps me to serve others.
Feeling Defeated
There are days when I’m feeling so defeated. But on those days I realize, I didn’t take time to care for myself.
Self Care is Necessary
I used to think that self-care was about pampering yourself, getting your nails done, or going out and shopping … you know things in that typical genre. But, there’s more to self-care than meets the eye.
Self-Care and God
Self-Care starts with God. My relationship with Him. When my cup is full I’m happier. What do I mean by having my “cup full”?
- Prayer
- Reading my Daily Scripture
- Fasting
- Worship
Now as a mom I’ve to realize, those things aren’t as easy to access as they once were. But When I wake up before my family I do have time to read. I worship with my girls as they listen to their children music. It’s different as a mom but when I feel my day the Lord first that completely changes my attitude the rest of the day. I’m happier.
Wake Up Before Your Family

Self-care starts with taking time for myself. I’ve realized that If I want time for myself, I have to get up before the rest of my family. It’s hard at first, I mean who really wants to wake up at 5 am every day. But, if I want any kind of time alone this is when I get it done. I’ve noticed that when I do this, I’m not as drained as you think I would be.
Self-Care and Getting Ready for the Day
Self-care means getting yourself ready for the day. I promise you, on days that I get up earlier than my family, I have so much more time. I’m able to actually shower in peace. I’m not in my pajamas until 1 pm. I actually get myself dressed, fix my hair, and put on a little makeup to make myself feel more confident. These things used to seem so vain to me at one point. But now, I see just how necessary for me it is to get myself together. When we neglect our outer appearance we tend to set ourselves up for failure the rest of the day.
Organization is Self Care
Self-care means being prepared for the day. Plan your day out. Make a to-do list. When I’m more organized I’m less stressed. Life is hard as it is, why make it harder by not planning your day out ?
Now, are you going to be able to do all these things instantly if you’re not used to self-care? No, trust me I’m still working on all of these things. It’s a process but start with small victories. Once you start taking care of yourself, you’ll be able to really serve others.

The Daily Grace Co. has been my go-to for all of my Bible Study needs. My Personal Bible is the Leather Bound Journaling Bible. I’m able to read and jot down my notes and thoughts for the day.

I used to be a big planner girl. I had more than three different planners to organize my day. Now, as a momma, I couldn’t keep up with all of them. I organize myself now on my iPad and it’s been a game changer for me.

A bit of lavender and peppermint has always been my go-to for relaxing. I love to put this in a diffuser, add it to my morning showers or add it to coconut oil to use as a lotion. This stuff is amazing. Use my Coupon Code faithgracehome10 to get 10 percent off your first purchase with Revive Essential Oils.
Totally agree that self care should be a priority! Like your thought that organization is self care
Self care is very important to your health. I wake up & go to bed before my family does. I have been doing it for a few years now. I like that time to myself.
You are so right about the importance of self-care! And I really like the different things you explained as being a part of our self-care. I never thought of organization as a part of that, but I’d totally agree! 💛
This is so important! I always get up before my family during the week, just so I can have my coffee in peace and collect my thoughts for the day. It may seem like a small thing, but it makes a big difference!
Self care is just so important! My daily skincare ritual is my self care. My skin is my biggest insecurity & when I feel as though i am doing my best to care for my skin, I just feel so much better about myself 🙂
You make such a great point about organization. Being intentional about following organized systems of doing things has greatly reduced my anxiety over the years.
Self care is really important!
I think that these days self care has to be a high priority to make sure you stay healthy, both mentally and physically.
As a fellow Momma, I also wake up at 5 am every day (it’s the only way to get hot coffee). On the days I think I am doing my body a favor by sleeping in, I am quickly reminded of the importance of carving out time for myself. I’m also a lover of essential oils, and I think even taking the time every day to decide what oils/blends our bodies need is so important. Thank you for sharing this great post.
Not a mom but definitely something to keep in mind for friends who are expecting!
